Net Zero Accreditation- Measuring

Accreditation Stage One - Measuring

To achieve Stage 1 - Measuring accreditation, your organisation must have completed an initial carbon footprint calculation and have a documented commitment to reduce emissions over time. This stage confirms you have the baseline data and plan in place to start your journey in earnest.

How we assess it

Submissions are assessed against the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and current DESNZ UK Government Conversion Factors. Our panel checks that the correct methodology and reporting boundaries have been applied.

What we look for

  • A completed Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon footprint, calculated using recognised UK Government conversion factors
  • Coverage of key Scope 3 emission sources relevant to your organisation
  • A defined baseline year and current year emissions figure, reported in tCO₂e
  • A Carbon Reduction or Climate Action Plan with an emissions reduction target aligned to UK Government and science-based ambitions
  • An action plan with clear measures and a commitment to annual review

Stage 1 accreditation demonstrates that your organisation is measuring what matters and has a credible plan to act.
